Port hails staff trio who complete gruelling Brighton marathon

Bob Weaver, Matt Linscer and Tim Hague all completed the Brighton Marathon, raising money for various charities in the process.

Mr Weaver, who had previously completed the marathon twice before, broke the four hour mark for the first time and is targeting the London Marathon for his next challenge.

Mr Hague said the challenge was worthwhile, despite struggling for motivation during the winter.

He said: “It wasn’t easy at first, motivating myself during the winter to go out and hit the pavement.

“The Brighton Marathon is a fantastic event and is extremely successful at raising huge amounts of money for many worthwhile causes.”

Mr Linscer, running for St Barnabas House, said: “I was amazed at the camaraderie shown by the other runners and the crowd towards everyone running.”

Shoreham Port accommodates various running events throughout the year, closing roads and preparing surfaces so they are runner-friendly.

The team are on hand from early in the morning to ensure the race runs smoothly through the port.

Director of engineering, Tony Parker, was tasked with getting the port spick and span and ready for the big day.

He said: “It’s a lot of hard work by dozens of people over a number of months to make sure everything runs smoothly on the day, not to mention all the effort put in by the competitors.

“But it’s a great boost, brilliant for personal health and it supports hundreds of worthy causes. It also brings a big smile to thousands of faces and that in itself makes it all worthwhile.”
