And if you want to be the owner, it’ll set you back £220,000 for the leasehold – with £48,000 in annual rent.

Giles and Sandra Stone said they ‘have had eight great years at the Crown & Anchor’ and now feel they ‘would like to move onto other things’.

They added: “The success of the Crown & Anchor has been entirely due to the staff and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them and of course our loyal customers. In the meantime it’s business as usual.”

Property advisers Christie & Co is selling the leasehold of the Crown & Anchor, which fronts Shoreham’s High Street and backs onto the mouth of the River Adur.

The Crown & Anchor comprises two bars with bar stools and sofas, a separate pool table area, a further bar area, a restaurant seating up to 65 people with a seated balcony area offering views over the river, a commercial kitchen, office and large cellar.

On the first floor is a separate 40 person capacity function room and a four-bedroom owners’ accommodation, which is split over the first and second floor, and to the rear of the property is a large trade garden with a terrace with views of the river.

To the side is a car park.
