Winners in the poppy painting competition, organised by Steyning and District Royal British Legion for children from primary schools in the area, will be on show.

Patricia Gill, one of the members, said: “This year is particularly important as we were approached by the chairman of the Royal British Legion, Mr Lewis Whittaker, to paint a Flanders poppy for their lottery, which takes place at the centenary luncheon to commemorate the start of the First World War.”

The donated painting was presented to the group at Steyning Memorial Garden last month but it will be on show for the exhibition, at the Steyning Centre on Saturday, November 8.

Patricia added: “We will be exhibiting our artists’ high standard of work as always, which includes textiles and greeting cards, as well as the poppy painting.”

Meet the artists at the exhibition, which runs from 9.30am to 5pm. Entrance is free and refreshments are available.
