The pop-up shop project will be run across the district this year, in Sompting, Shoreham and Sompting.

Community artist Jane Gordon will run the shops on the festival theme, Strange Creatures, with the support of festival co-ordinator, Mella Faye Punchard.

Jane said: “I’ve been keen to create a making space for community members and artists to share resources and ideas for a while now.

“When I met Mella, I explained to her how much the community had treasured the Adur Wonderland project as a creative sharing space.

“There will be resident professional artists and visiting artists including children’s illustrator, Layn Marlow, theatre company Long Nose Puppets and musician Tom Cook.

“Anyone, young or old, will be invited to wander into any of these shops, and create their very own strange creature out of recycled materials. The creature will then be exhibited in the shop for the festival, before being given away to a caring home.”

To cover artist fees and costs, Jane is running a Crowdfunder campaign at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/strange-creature-pet-shop and applying for a grant from Arts Council England.

Mella said: “Jane has worked really hard to put together a brilliant line-up of local and national artists and is creating an opportunity for the whole district to create something together.”
