Members of the South Downs branch of the Fleet Air Arm Association and the Brighton, Hove and West Sussex branch of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Association were set up in the Holmbush Centre in Shoreham last Saturday from 9am to 4pm, trying to generate as much money as possible.

The volunteers were joined by members of Hove Sea Cadets, who helped with speaking to members of the public and telling them what the event was for to encourage donations.

With the final fundraising total at £401.84, event organisers were very pleased with how the day went.

Gerry Mitchell, who has run this event for the past seven years, said: “We had a very good response, better than we were thinking it might be. It was nice to have the Hove Sea Cadets with us this year.”

Gerry is the chairman of the South Downs branch of the Fleet Air Arm Association, and vice-chairman of the Brighton, Hove and West Sussex branch of the REME Association.
