Designs revised for major Shoreham Harbour development

Hyde wants to redevelop the Kingston Wharf site and build 255 flats in three separate blocks alongside a mixed-use business centre and a riverside walk.

However when the scheme was discussed by Adur District Council’s planning committee earlier this month the designs were not viewed favourably.

One councillor went as far as comparing it to something drawn by a child with a box of crayons.

The committee voted unanimously to defer the application to a later meeting while aspects of the design were looked at again.

Hyde has come back with a revised scheme, which is due to be discussed by the committee on Monday July 6.

According to an officers’ report: “The resulting appearance is less rectangular in form and more varied in detailing, texture and colour, which is considered a significant amendment and improvement.”

They went on to point out how this is an 100 per cent affordable scheme, but the funding is dependent on the homes being delivered by March 2024.

Hyde has told the council it needs to secure planning permission and be on site early next year to ensure the funding can be secured.

Officers also advised members about the financial impact of Covid-19 and the need to kick-start the economy.

Their report added: “The early redevelopment of this site will create significant employment opportunities during the construction and implementation stage with the proposed Enterprise Centre.”
