Solar Together Sussex, which is open for applications until Tuesday, October 6, is designed to help homeowners generate their own renewable energy, save money on their electricity bills and cut carbon emissions.

According to Adur and Worthing Councils, gas and electricity in homes currently accounts for 38 per cent of carbon emissions in the area - equating to around 260 kilotonnes.

The councils said installing solar panels and generating zero carbon electricity at home could reduce the annual carbon footprint of an average household by around one tonne per year.

Councillors declared a climate emergency in 2019 and committed to becoming carbon neutral across Adur and Worthing by 2050.

Neil Parkin, Leader of Adur District Council, said: “Solar panels are an increasingly common sight on homes and commercial properties. Solar Together Sussex is a great opportunity for those who have been considering a move to solar power to sign up for a high quality installation with great cost savings.”

Solar Together Sussex is being run in conjunction with councils across Sussex and is coordinated by West Sussex Council. It uses a group buying approach to secure significant saving on solar panel installations from accredited contractors.

Dan Humphreys, Leader of Worthing Borough Council, said: “We’re delighted to be working with other councils in Sussex to offer homeowners the chance to take advantage of the cost savings that can be achieved through this group buying scheme, and help cut the carbon emissions that are generated through electricity use in homes.”

Homeowners can register their interest by Tuesday, October 6, at www.solartogether.co.uk/westsussex. They will then be sent a cost proposal and asked to decide if they wish to proceed with the installation.
