Police dispatch helicopter after man flees car crash scene

A police helicopter was deployed to search for a man who ran from a car after it crashed in Worthing, a force spokesperson said.

The silver Ford Fiesta came to the attention of police when it was spotted speeding westbound on the A27 Upper Brighton Road just after 1am on Thursday (October 6).

A police unit found the vehicle crashed into a lamppost on the A27 and A24 Grove Lodge roundabout a few minutes later.

Police said a white, bald-headed man in a red hooded top was seen to get out of the car and run off towards Offington Avenue.

A National Police Air Service helicopter supported ground-based colleagues, along with a dog unit, but the driver was not located.

Police said investigations are continuing to establish the registered owner of the car and to find out who was driving it.
