PLANS for the vacant Nynex House in Southwick have been withdrawn.
Adur District Council’s planning committee, meeting on Monday, was due to determine an application for a change from office and warehouse to a non-residential institution, with assembly and leisure use.
The building in Gardner Road, formerly occupied by Virgin Media, has been vacant since June 2012.
Letters of objection had suggested coach-loads of people would be coming and going, including asylum seekers looking for refuge.
The Health and Safety Executive advised against the development as the site is near to the fuel storage facility at Texaco Wharf, which handles potentially hazardous substances.
A letter to the council from Stiles Harold Williams, acting on behalf of the applicant, said the application was being completely withdrawn, based on the report to the committee, which recommended refusal.
