Person hit by a train near Chichester

A spokesman for Southern Rail has confirmed a person has been struck by a train near Chichester this evening.

Souther Rail said the incident happened just before 4pm today (November 5).

“We can confirm the 15.55 Littlehampton to Portsmouth and Southsea service struck a person,” said a spokesman.

“We believe this happened at the Funtington level crossing.

“Services west of Chichester have been cancelled and we are looking at running replacement buses.”

Train services between Chichester and Havant have been delayed and cancelled following the incident.

A spokesman for Southern Rail added: “Emergency services are dealing with an incident near Nutbourne causing delays of up to 60 minutes to journeys between Chichester and Havant.

“There is no firm estimate yet of how long disruption will last.”
