Performing arts to be celebrated at new Coombes festival

A NEW festival with an “eclectic mix of music, theatre and dance” is set to launch next month.

Dromos Travelling Festival will arrive at Church Farm, Coombes, on Sunday, July 24.

Martin Atkinson, who used to manage the Ropetackle Arts Centre, in Little High Street, Shoreham, is a leading producer for the event.

He described Dromos as a “family-friendly festival”.

“Our aim is to celebrate the creative skills of local communities, whilst bringing in exciting artists from across the country.”

Highlights of the festival will include bands such as Brighton-based Two Spot Gobi and Common Tongues, up-and-coming artists Ryan Whitmore and Forestears and theatre from Little Bulb Theatre and The River People.

The all-male Udify Dance Company will also perform contemporary dance throughout the day. “With all this, plus much more, why not come and celebrate the start of summer,” said Martin.

Dromos has just received the Inspire Mark for the 2012 Cultural Olympiad and is backed by Seb Coe and the Olympic Planning Committee.

The free-of-charge festival is on from 1pm to 6pm at Church Farm, Coombes, on Sunday, July 24.
