Worthing widow has head shaved to give back to hospice

A widow supported by St Barnabas House hospice in Worthing spent her 62nd birthday giving something back, raising £1,000 by having her head shaved. Sonia Mitchell said it was a cause close to many people’s hearts and she received vital support herself during the palliative care of her late husband Tony.

She added: “St Barnabas needs all the publicity and funds they can raise. I have been sponsored by friends, family and my local Slimming World group.” Sonia was 62 on Thursday and she had her hair shaved off in the afternoon at Kate Mitchell Makeup Studio, in Tarring Road, Worthing. She runs Bow Boss on Facebook, selling a range of hand-crafted bows and accessories to raise money for charity, and boosted her fundraising by making and selling face masks.

Sonia said she was ‘never one for the conventional’ and she wanted to ‘do something radical for a fantastic cause’. Daughters Katie, Kate and Claire were there to cheer her on and friends gathered outside to watch through the window. Visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bowbossheadshave to make a donation.
