Chris and Amanda Saunders have been running Teach Me Kung Fu Schools’ classes for children and adults in Worthing and the surrounding areas for more than 20 years.

Amanda said: “The school prides itself on being one big kung fu family and brings together students from all walks of life, teaching them the life skill of self defence in an environment which is stimulating, engaging, encouraging and inclusive while also being structured and disciplined.”

During the Covid-19 lockdown, the school offered online training and it is now reopening classes, initially outdoors at its new venue in Collingwood Road, Worthing.

The Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts covers policy, procedures, practices, education, training and monitoring. Achieving the code mark demonstrates the club’s commitment to upholding its duty of care to the community and young people, and recognises it has reached and effectively maintained good safeguarding standards.

Sue Harrison, stakeholder marketing, said: “We are delighted to see that so many clubs, including Teach Me Kung Fu Schools, have successfully attained the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts.

“When making choices about martial arts schools, parents and carers can easily determine and be reassured that clubs in their local area are committed to safeguarding and upholding safe practices for their children if they display the Safeguarding Code mark.”

The code is funded by the National Lottery and was launched by the sports minister in 2018.

British Judo and British Taekwondo Council have achieved the Advanced Standards for Safeguarding, so automatically gain the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts standard.
