Members of the club have accepted they cannot control social distancing with the huge crowd that would likely attend.

President Tony Carter said: "It is with regret that after discussions with Worthing council, we are sorry to say that the Worthing Lions Festival in July 2020 has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 virus.

"We are sorry to all the people who contribute to the festival and also the public who were looking forward to this event.

"We would also like to say a big thank you to all of the sponsors for the continued support.

"Unfortunately, it would be impossible to control and implement social distancing for the public at this event. The fireworks are the main cause for concern, when it is attended by so many people in the evening."

The good news is that the club hopes to open its charity shop at 78-80 Goring Road in the near future, with safety precautions in place.
