Weather warning issued for the whole of Sussex

The Met Office has issued a 36-hour weather warning for the whole of Sussex with heavy rain expected to fall across the county.

The yellow warning for heavy rain is in place from 12am (midnight) on Wednesday (January 20) until 12pm on Thursday (January 21).

The Met Office said the rainfall is likely to lead to flooding in areas and travel disruption across the county.

The national weather service it was likely there would be flooding of a few homes and businesses; bus and train services would probably be affected with journey times taking longer; spray and flooding on roads would make journey times longer; and told residents to expect some interruption to power supplies and other services.

Storm Christoph is due to bring widespread flooding, with much of northern England to be most affected, the Met Office said. A major incident has been declared in South Yorkshire.

An amber warning for heavy rain has been issued for Yorkshire and the Humber, the North West, East Midlands and the east of England.

Parts of Scotland have been warned to expect snow.
