On February 6 the Newhaven coastguard posted on Facebook there was a fresh crack in the cliff top at Seaford Head close to where there was a ‘huge collapse’ at the cliff the day before.

A safety barrier has been put up by the team in order to keep the public away from the crack site.

Since this crack appeared, the coastguard has told people the current weather means the cliff is now ‘actively moving’.

Today (February 9) the team said the crack has become larger and has dropped ‘significantly’ and there has been ‘sizeable cliff fall’ at Seven Sisters too.

The coastguard said, “Please stay away from cliff edges and bases as they are very unstable and are liable to collapse without warning.

“Due to the current weather, the cliffs are currently very weak and fresh cracks are appearing all the time.”

In the case of a coastal emergency, members of the public should call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
