Shoreham personal trainer takes on six-hour HIIT workout for cancer charity

Sophie Garwood, who runs SOPHFIT and has been posting free workouts on YouTube, was left devastated last January by the death of her mother, Rosie Garwood, and, on the same day, the announcement of the closure of The Towers in Upper Beeding, where she was a teacher.

She did a live four-hour HIIT workout from her living room in May 2020 and raised more than £5,000 for St Barnabas House hospice in Worthing in memory of her mum.

Sophie said: “This time I want to set myself a new challenge, so on Sunday, January 17, from 8am to 2pm, I am going to be doing a six-hour HIIT workout live on my Facebook page, raising money for Neuroendocrine Cancer UK again in memory of my mum, who died very suddenly of the illness a year ago on January 15.

“My lovely mum was taken very suddenly from us at only 65 years old. Since she passed away, I have been trying to raise money for various charities in her memory. With the pandemic, though, raising money has been hard and many charities are struggling as a result of this. I have had to think outside the box.

“Neuroendocrine cancer is rare and shows very little symptoms so it’s very hard to detect. Unfortunately for my mum, by the time she was diagnosed it was too late. My mum died only a month later.

“It has all been totally devastating for the family. Mum was so seemingly fit and well up until the month before she died. She had so much to live for. Mum was talented, passionate and inspirational and her family miss her desperately.

“Cancer affects so many lives now, and I just want to help in anyway I can.”
