Martha Griffin-Tester deserves recognition for her efforts, according to her grandfather, like Jade-Louise Bedford, who made national headlines for not missing a day of school in seven years in Pontefract.

Martha, 11, is off to Shoreham Academy in September and fully expects to keep up her excellent attendance record.

Mum Clare Griffin said Martha had loved her time at Swiss Gardens Primary School.

She added: “Martha wasn’t expecting any special recognition for her attendance, she just loved her primary school and was happy to go there every day.

“This is testament to a great school as well as her resilient attitude. We’re always proud of her.”

Martha started her education at Billingshurst Primary School, then moved to Swiss Gardens Primary School in Shoreham.

John Griffin, her proud grandfather, said: “She went through her entire primary school life without missing a day’s attendance, except that in February this year, her family took a half-term break in New York, returning on an early Monday morning flight.

“While the rest of the family had a day off, Martha, wishing to keep to her 100 per cent attendance record, dutifully went into school.

“However, after lunchtime, she was deemed to be too tired and was sent home. Because she was not present for afternoon registration, she was denied the 100 per cent attendance achievement.

“Although disappointed, we thought no more about it until I saw a piece in The i newspaper a few days ago and thought maybe the Herald would give Martha a little boost by mentioning her heroic feat.”
