Owner Karen Beverley described them as the best Christmas lights in the south and said she was thrilled to have raised so much money for the hospice.

Karen said: “We have thousands and thousands of lights, at last count it was more than 50,000. Our reindeer alone are over 2.1m high each and we have 10, just in the front garden.

“We have a 15ft Christmas tree, a 12ft Christmas tree, a Santa and even a sleigh. Photos do not do the lights justice.”

The lights are on every day from 4.30pm to 9pm. Visitors are asked to park at Broadmark Car Park, behind Waitrose. Walk out of the car park, turn left and then left again, down Busby Avenue, then right into Sea Avenue and as you go round the corner you will see the glow.

There are two donation boxes for cash donations or visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/thethatchedhouselights to donate online.
