Pictures show West Sussex beaches as lockdown restrictions eased

West Sussex’s beaches appear to have remained largely empty despite the easing of lockdown restrictions yesterday (May 13).

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Sunday that the public could now exercise outdoors an unlimited number of times, as well as sunbathe or have picnics in line with social distancing guidelines. The relaxation of the strict rules of the previous seven weeks were expected to see a rush of sun-seekers flock to the seaside, but these pictures show that was not the case. Despite being sunny, yesterday was quite cold so that may have played its part. West Wittering beach in Chichester defied Government guidance and kept its car park closed, which may have helped to keep visitor numbers down.
