ParTEA in the Park – which has been organised by Krisi Smith, founder of Brighton based indie tea company Bird & Blend Tea Co – will take place over four days on the Adur Recreation Ground.

Three open air shows will take place each day from Friday, August 28.

The shows will include open air films on the big screen, a silent disco, pre-recorded music, live comedy and some short live music sets.

The idea for the event came about after Ms Smith, like many business owners, found her summer trading wiped out this year due to the coronavirus crisis.

She decided to work with other independent businesses to set up her own socially-distanced event.

She said: “Anyone that knows Bird & Blend knows we do things a bit differently and aren’t afraid to put ourselves out there.

“I am so passionate about our local business, culture and food and drink community and it’s been heartbreaking to see the impact of COVID so far this year.

“After chatting the idea through with some of our fellow businesses I just thought why can’t we just host our own event, created from 100 per cent local performers & businesses, and make it the type of safe and fun event we would all want to go to?”

Guests will be seated across a maximum 140 picnic pitches on the recreation ground, with each pitch measuring six metres wide and spaced two metres on all sides.

Attendees be taken to their seats in a staggered, socially distanced manner by the event team, who will be wearing full PPE.

The pitches will be available for two, four, or six guests.

Once seated, no one else can enter the guest’s pitches, and they cannot leave, apart from to use the bathroom facilities which will be socially distanced and with extensive hygiene protocols.

Food and drink can be ordered to the pitches via an app.

The maximum number of guests that could be on site at one time is 480, Ms Smith confirmed.

However, as a higher number of the two-person pitches are expected to sell, the number is far more likely to be 300 maximum, she said.

Organisers said the event had been closely planned with the local council, health and safety consultants and police, and was in line with all guidance and legislation regarding COVID-19.
