TWO pupils from Steyning Grammar School are taking on the mammoth task of organising a music concert in three months to raise money for charity.

Anabel Mather, 14, from Storrington, and Victoria Ballard, 15, from Ashington, will be putting on the show at the Capitol Theatre, in Horsham, in February, to raise funds for local charities ABC Champions Animal Sanctuary, founded by the late The Champions actress Alexandra Bastedo, and the Dame Vera Lynn Trust, founded by the veteran singer.

The pair came up with the idea while debating what to do for their volunteering section of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Victoria said: “We were in our class for at the beginning of the year for our Duke of Edinburgh Award and they were talking about the volunteering section of it.

“We looked to see what other people had done and thought we could do that.”

As if juggling homework, revision and lessons was not enough, the girls are also organising every part of the show with no help from anyone else.

They have already booked the venue and are currently in the middle of sorting out sponsorship and hosting auditions to find acts for the concert.

As well as all the organising for the entire show, the teenagers will also be performing in the main production.

Victoria said: “It is bit intimidating and it is a lot of work but it is going to be great.”

Anabel continued: “It’s a bit daunting really but I am very excited about doing it.”

The charities the pair have chosen are close to both girls’ hearts and they plan to raise around £1,000 for each.

Victoria said: “The target for each charity is to raise about £1,000.”

Anabel added: “But we would like to get a lot more.

Both girls said they would like to thank Mandy at QM Studios in Horsham for letting them use the studio for the auditions free of charge.

They also wanted to thank everyone from both charities for allowing them to support the causes.

The concert will be performed at the Capitol on Sunday, February 1, and tickets are on sale from the Capitol box office.
