Up to ten weekly sessions of 50 minutes each are available for young people aged between 16 and 25 across the county thanks to a partnership between West Sussex Mind and Worthing Counselling, funded through some extra money from the Big Lottery in response to the pandemic.

The counselling, which will be either over the phone or online via Zoom, is to help meet the increased mental health need at this time.

West Sussex Mind’s young people, children and families service manager Kim Anthony said: “We recognise that many more young people are facing difficulties because of the current crisis, whether that’s feeling isolated from friends, coping with studying alone, dealing with grief or loss, unemployment or other worries. And some will be struggling in a more significant way.

“We also know that those who already have a mental health problem may find it is exacerbated in the current situation. We’re seeing many with anxiety, depression and OCD.”
