Harvest festival showcases children's performances at Upper Beeding Primary School

A celebration of harvest took place at Upper Beeding Primary School with years three and four enjoying a festival of songs and theatre.

A variety of songs including The Bread Song, Everybody Come to the Harvest Fair and One World were performed by the pupils, with lots of actions to entertain their audience.

Corrine Wellby, music leader, said: “The children also presented a short poignant play, which contrasts our plentiful harvest with the plight of children in the third world.

“With a beautiful vocal performance of Can You Hear Me? from Frankie, Zac, Callum, Maddie, Lauren and Sam, the lyrics and haunting melody reminded us all of the atrocities suffered by those in war-torn countries and the need to help the millions of starving people around the world.”

A light-hearted performance of The Cheese Song was then enjoyed by the audience, sung by eight-year-old Oliver.

The school received a wheat sheaf, donated by Truffles bakery in Steyning, to add to their harvest display.

Corrine said: “The teachers are extremely proud of the effort and hard work by the children in producing this harvest celebration.

The children gave two performances, one to parents and the whole school in the morning and an additional one for elderly members of the community in the afternoon who were then invited to stay and enjoy a cup of tea and a biscuit served by some of the pupils.
