Tributes have been paid to grandmother Rosalie Mahoney, who has passed away aged 83.

Her family said: “She had an ability to relate easily with people from all walks of life and revelled in catering for large social events whilst remaining a family person at heart,” they said.

Rosalie and her husband David moved to Worthing in 1961, where she initially worked for Clifford Brown Opticians before raising her two children.

She then returned to her true vocation of Nursery Nurse, eventually becoming the Principal of the Findon Valley FC Nursery School.

Rosalie was a founder member of the Inner Wheel Cub of Worthing Steyne, serving as President and Treasurer, and of the Open Dinghy Sailing Club in East Preston, and enjoyed bowling at Worthing Pavilion.

In the 1960s she also helped with the post match catering for Worthing Cricket and Hockey clubs where she made many good long term friends.

As well as painting, she enjoyed restoration and was particularly successful in restoring a 100 years old classic rocking horse

In retirement Rosalie and her husband – who celebrated 60 years of marriage together last year – enjoyed visiting countries worldwide.

They had many memorable experiences and the odd hairy moment, including being attacked by the leader of a large tribe of baboons at a Cape of Good Hope beach.

In 2013 Rosalie was diagnosed as having Parkinsons disease and after bravely battling its effects, she sadly passed away peacefully at home on June 13.
