Elvis sings for Southwick centenarian and raises £3,000 for NHS Charities Together

Elvis was in the garden, not the building, to help a Southwick centenarian celebrate her 100th birthday.

Joan Howell and other residents at Greenways care home were treated to entertainment with Ivor Potter, performing as Suspiciously Elvis.

He sang a special rendition of Happy Birthday for Joan, all from the patio at the Victoria Road care home.

Beth Clark, from Greenways, said: “Life goes on in the community of Southwick, supporting events in the traditional way.

“Greenways care home celebrated one of their treasured residents’ 100th birthday in style. To her joy, among her gifts was a signed card from Her Majesty the Queen and another from local MP Tim Loughton.”

The home said Mr Loughton had been very supportive and staff were extremely grateful as he had been ‘helpful in sourcing PPE and face masks’.

Owner Brenda Clark thanked the hard-working staff and said they deserved a special mention as they had been doing an amazing job during this lockdown period.

Ivor held a fundraising event on Facebook on Saturday, April 18, live from his home in Southwick.

He said: “I sang all the King’s classic songs and raised £3,000 for the NHS. The show was extremely well received, with 9,600 views and on request, a second show is now planned on the Suspiciously Elvis Facebook page at 8pm on Saturday, May 2, 2020.

“Although we are in difficult times, these events offer hope and joy to everyone. Many thanks to all those that are supporting the battle of this virus and keeping the community going.”
