Now Sarah, who is a Hyde Housing Association resident, has been named as a finalist in the Housing Quality Network (HQN) Frontline Stars awards. The awards recognise individuals who have gone the extra mile in helping their community during the Covid 19 crisis

Since the outbreak, Sarah, who is chair of the Phoenix Community Tenants and Residents Association, has worked tirelessly in supporting her neighbours by delivering food. She has been in the community handing out essential food items to neighbours who are struggling to make ends meet, as well as those who are having to shield or self-isolate. One resident said: “Without Sarah’s help, we wouldn’t have eaten today.”

Tom Goodridge, Community Engagement Officer, Brighton & Hove City Council said: ““Sarah is a passionate community activist I have the pleasure to have supported for some years now. Sarah puts her community first and has been the catalyst for the establishment of a vibrant, vocal and innovative community association at the Phoenix Estate. What I find most refreshing is Sarah’s eagerness to absorb and develop as a community leader – never standing still, looking for new ways to engage and create positive lasting change. Every community would be lucky to have a Sarah in their ranks.”

Chloe Hoare, Learning Programme Manager at Phoenix Art Space, added: “Sarah is a tireless advocator for the residents of the Phoenix Estate and the wider community. She brings people and organisations together to work towards positive change that has a real impact on people’s lives. Sarah fights for the underrepresented and vulnerable people in our community and strives to ensure that everyone has a say in decisions that affect them. We greatly value her friendship and support with shaping our community engagement projects, her input enables us to reach the people who will benefit the most from our work.”
