Not only did they raise an eyebrow, they raised some money too, having learned the friends were on a 24-hour walk for Look Sussex, a small local charity that provides activities and days out for children with a visual impairment and support for their families.

Sean Goulding, one of the group of 13 young men, said a lot of people stopped to ask what they were doing and once it was explained, everyone showed amazing support, with some even donating.

Lisa Eyles, who gave £10, wrote on their JustGiving page: “Bumped into you up Cissbury walking my dogs. Had to get a photo as it was quite a bizarre sight and realised you must have been on some sort of challenge. Amazing that it’s for charity.”

Eight of the friends are from Worthing, Sean Goulding, James Donlevy, Joel Parsons, Dan Geal, George Meyer, Harry Latos, Luke Ramsey and Oli Wills.

The other five, William Haynes, Jake Casali, Alex Norman, Joe Baker and Ted Loxton were all invited as friends of Oli, who plays rugby with them for the University Of Sussex.

Sean said: “The walk was incredibly tough and the majority of participants had injured something by the finish. A lot of the group declared that this was one of the most difficult challenges they had ever faced, although, the money going to a good cause and the comfortable bed motivated everyone to put in an amazing effort.

“One person in the group had completed the walk having only brought one 450ml bottle of water and one sandwich.”

The friends walked for 24 hours, having started at the Cissbury Ring car park in Nepcote on Monday evening.
