With the castle currently closed to visitors, it was decided to show the spectacular displays via the new microsite www.tulipfestival.co.uk so the tulips did not go unseen.

Martin Duncan, head gardener, said: “We couldn’t let the long winter months of bulb planting go to waste, so we’re delighted to be able to show off the fruits of our labour and let everyone see the displays online.

“Look out for exquisite varieties like the dinky Persian Pearl at just 15cm tall, or the unusual-looking Parrot Negrita with its extravagantly feathered deep purple petals. The Rill Pond will be surrounded by the flamboyant Pink Impression, while the Tropical Borders will burst with hues of yellow and orange, including from the Firework and Rhapsody of Smiles.”
