SEVEN Steyning Parish Councillors have stood down for this year’s parish elections in May.

Eight original members of the parish have decided to stay on, including chairman Philip Bowell.

Three new candidates have stepped up to the plate, including Gary and Sarah Sullivan of Newham Lane and Rodney Goldsmith of Fairs Field.

However, as there are currently four vacancies left, the candidates placed forward will be duly elected, unopposed.

David Barling has announced he will step down following six years on the parish.

Mr Barling said he is ‘sad’ to be leaving, but as county councillor for Bramber Castle and recently taking on the role of cabinet member for residents’ services, it has left him with little time to spend on the parish.

“I shall miss it. I’m sad to be stepping down because I have worked with some wonderful people and made many new friends.”

Mr Barling said he will continue to attend meetings of the parish council.

For Bramber Parish Council, nine members will be standing leaving no vacancies, and eight members will stand for Upper Beeding Parish Council leaving four vacancies.
