OLDER people in Shoreham were able to feel young again when they were treated to a pantomime performance.
Members of Friday Club, which meets at Church of the Good Shepherd on Shoreham Beach, were treated to a performance of Aladdin in Worthing last Tuesday.
Adur East Lions Club paid for the club to go to the pantomime, starring Jon Lee from S Club 7, at the Connaught Theatre.
Lion Susan Saunders said they had also paid for Herons Dale pupils to see a pantomime, Sleeping Beauty in Shoreham, as reported in last week’s Herald.
“It’s behind you... may be a familiar cry at panto time but this year, it also signifies the backing that Adur East Lions Club gives to all ages within the local community,” she added.
“For the third year running, the club has funded a special performance of the panto at the Ropetackle for pupils of Herons Dale Primary School in Shoreham, which caters for children with a wide range of learning difficulties.
“However, for the first time, Adur East Lions are funding a trip to the pantomime for the Friday Club, which is based on Shoreham Beach. The members of this club are the elderly and housebound who want to make new friends.”
The club meets once a week at the hall of the Church of the Good Shepherd. It offers a range of activities, from listening to speakers, playing games or just chatting.
Ms Saunders said: “Members of the club had expressed a desire to see a pantomime but did not have the funds to make this happen. The Lions were approached and were happy to wave their magic wand.
“It is through local fundraising that the Lions are able to support both these events and it is the members of the club who decide where the money is going at their monthly business meetings at the Royal George, on the Holmbush roundabout.
