Pan-tastic Role

AN Upper Beeding teenager has landed the role of a lifetime '“ the title part in West Sussex County Youth Theatre's production of Peter Pan.

Alex Piper, 17, will be joining a cast of youngsters from across the county when the show is performed at the Capitol Theatre, Horsham, from Tuesday, August 30, to Saturday, September 3.

"I'm very excited," he told the Herald. "It's a really big part and there are so many Peter Pans out there. I have always enjoyed the story and, when I heard that West Sussex were doing it, I was straight in there."

Alex goes to Steyning Grammar School and appeared in the school's productions of Joseph and Oliver! this year.

He has been involved with West Sussex Youth Theatre for several years and has appeared in five of its productions.

Peter Pan also sees him reunited with former Steyning Grammar drama teacher Jonathan Goodwin.

Alex will be going up to London next week with some of the cast to learn how to fly for the role.

He added: "Earlier this year, I had a bit of a dilemma when I auditioned for the National Youth Theatre, and then they wrote me a letter, offering me a part, which would have clashed with Peter Pan."
