Swiss Gardens Primary School took part in the British Heart Foundation’s Ramp Up the Red campaign on Friday.

Jenny Bourne, from the school, said: “We collected things for the charity shops, rather than ask people for money, and we were overwhelmed by the response.”

The foundation is the biggest funder of charitable heart research in the UK and the idea was to focus on red clothing for the day.

The charity said: “What a day. The nation turned red for one day to fight heart disease. Thousands joined in and raised money to fund our vital research.”
