Worthing mustn't forget us over-60s '˜teens'

I was lucky enough to be one of the many to attend The Hollies concert at the Pavilion, Worthing, last Saturday, and must say it was a very enjoyable evening and it appeared to be a sell-out.

It is not often these days for us to receive the larger bands as they all have their sights set on larger venues.

However it is not always possible for people to attend larger venues, so we miss out on shows.

I read an articte in The Journal recently stating ‘after putting up with tribute bands Worthing has regained a foothold in the mainstream music world’, which is fine for the youngsters of today, but what about us ‘teenagers of the 60s’ who are not quite ready for the scrapheap yet?

The tribute bands are a way for us to remember our teenage years and it would be a shame if these were now discounted.

I have noticed over the past couple of years that the entertainment at the Pavilion and the Connaught has changed, and not necessarily for the better.

I can recall three or four years ago buying tickets in bulk for theatre productions, usually six at a time, but I am finding it difficult these days to find one or two things to see at the theatres.

I used to receive theatre vouchers for my birthday but there is no point any more as I cannot find anything worth going to see.

The theatres have done a good job in Worthing over the years, but something seems to have gone wrong recently.

It was also reported that the pantomime last year doubled its attendance – surely this was due to the fact that we were down to one panto as opposed to two.

More cutbacks I presume.

Come on Worthing entertainment department, yes encourage the youngsters to go to the theatres, but don’t forget the ‘middle aged and over 60s residents’ in

the process.
