Worthing Labour leader speaks about Black Lives Matter movement

In recent weeks, we have seen the results of many years of social injustice and discrimination find a voice in communities across the globe.

In our own town of Worthing, we have seen people taking to the streets and taking the knee to express their profound sadness, solidarity and outrage at the death of George Floyd, showing support for Black Lives Matter and highlighting the daily prejudices experienced by black people and people from a multitude of creeds and cultures.

The Labour Party was founded by people who railed at social injustice and who wanted to fight to right these unacceptable wrongs through the political system.

Today, the political system in the UK and in many parts of the world remains out of touch with the vast majority of people, and the things that really matter to us and to our communities.

As your local Labour group in Worthing, we are writing this letter to all members of our community to publicly say that we stand with you and we fight for you and with you. Our job is to represent the people whose voices are unheard or ignored when decisions are taken.

Our job is to listen to you and to fight for the resources that you and your communities need to support each other and to thrive.

As we move together through this global pandemic, we are all dependent on each other for our health and our future wellbeing. We thank you for all that you do on a daily basis to support each other, and we pledge to continue to do our very best for all in our communities.
