Worthing has best amateur theatre venues
How lucky Worthing theatre goers are to have two medium sized theatres, the Connaught and the Pier Pavilion, allowing amateur and professional companies to bring top quality shows to the area.
Brighton does not provide for amateur companies the facilities to stage big cast musicals in the town, as they did in the early post war years. Venues include the Hippodrome ,the Essoldo, the Palace Pier now defunct and the Theatre Royal which appears no longer to be a viable place for amateurs to perform.
The few remaining Brighton amateur companies are staging their productions in small halls and churches and venues some outside Brighton.
Gones are the days when Brighton companies provided entertainment for thousands, when packed houses were the norm.
Worthing with its two theatres, are a Mecca of talent, with some highly talented companies, drama and dancing academies, schools ,and several make use of the wonderful theatres in the town.
The Worthing Musical Comedy Society are presenting 42nd Street, at the Connaught, a production budget of £50,000, profesional director, orchestra and choreographer, and a cast of 50. There are 36 named acting roles in the show and some superb tap dancing and well known songs.
42 Street is being presented on November 1 to 5.
I note that the West End, London, have greatly increased their prices – up to £200 for the best seats.
With the rail system at present and all the gloom and doom that we are constantly being subjected to, support your local theatres, see a local production of your choice – musicals, plays, dancing groups etc.
I guarantee you will be uplifted and come out with a smile on your face.
