Why paint out the line

I HAVE been a regular cyclist, using the lane along the seafront from Worthing to Shoreham, along the Widewater.

It has worked perfectly for years, with pedestrians using one side and cyclists the other, with a clear line separating the two.

I see the line has now been painted out and we are just to share the path.

This means cyclists are avoiding pedestrians, dog walkers and children, just as they are avoiding us, and nobody seems happy.

I can’t see the point of this. If it was a traffic-calming measure, it seems to have had the opposite effect, with pedestrians getting angry at us and feeling we now have no right to be there.

Whoever thought this up is obviously not a regular user of the path, either as a pedestrian or a cyclist, and what a waste of money painting out the line.

I say bring back clearly defined lanes, something that worked for years.
