What's negative about MP's statement?

I was a little bemused by Cliff Redman's letter about Peter Bottomley (Letters, July 7).

He was bemoaning the MP’s apparent negativity, simply because he had pledged to “work for the long term greater good of our community and our country”.

Where exactly is the negativity in this?

We have had a referendum, not an election. Peter Bottomley was, it is true, very publicly in the Remain camp and so will undoubtedly be disappointed with the result, but it is now his job, as a Government MP, to help lead us through the many changes that are coming.

Even the strongest of Leave campaigners freely admitted that Brexit would cause short term upheaval, particularly financial, so there is no eminent short term good.

What we need now, is for politicians who will lead us through to the longer term greater good that 52 per cent of the population saw on June 23.

I imagine that both local MPs – the other of whom did support Leave - have the long term in mind, as they continue their jobs as elected representatives.
