Sompting's '˜rat run' risks life and limb
I would like to add my support to George R Barton's correspondence published 25th August 2016.
I have been a resident of Church Lane in Sompting since 1971 and have experienced first-hand traffic levels increasing and all the associated issues which arise as a result. Like many residents in Sompting, we have all at different times raised our concerns, particularly in relation to the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders - there are young children on ponies who ride regularly along West Street.
On some stretches of West Street, there is no pavement adding further risk to pedestrians, particularly to mums and dads with young children in pushchairs.
The rat run is significantly worse - I have never observed such lengthy queues, which include heavy goods vehicles well beyond the weight limit permitted of the local roads in Sompting.
It is beyond belief that the potential risk of serious injury or worse has been allowed to escalate. I echo Mr Barton’s words ‘So please West Sussex County Council – action now’
