Sompting village has become a '˜rat run and race track'

In order to avoid lengthy queues leading up to the Lyons Farm traffic lights, vehicles ‘speed’ down, if possible to do so, either Church Lane or Dankton Lane. But on many occasions, they have to sit in the continuous stream from the junction of the A27 to West Street, at which point the ‘fight’ for who gets in first begins.

This on many daily occasions ends in road-rage battles or a total standstill in West Street and all the adjoining roads, as the only spare space will be taken up by selfish, couldn’t-care-l
ess drivers.

As residents of Sompting village we have on many occasions given way, only 
to be overtaken by the traffic from behind to race to 
that gap.

We feel the time has come for West Sussex County Council’s highways department to actively seek proper solutions to this living nightmare. May we suggest that a trial is run for a temporary ‘no left turns’ off the A27 and Church and Dankton lanes, and one-way north up the lanes with exit south for residents only?

Regarding comments by Neil Wilson of West Street, that the residents in Church Lane do not want change, I know personally that the residents want change, and quickly, too.
