RIVERBANK: River may not always be so kind

EVERY day, I browse the website and forums of the Shoreham Riverbank Support Group.

It makes for interesting reading.

The general opinion of the people writing is that no one wants the monstrous development planned for the Riverbank Industrial Estate in Shoreham.

Many people express anxiety over the risk of flooding.

With the recent serious flooding in Gloucestershire, this is a timely warning of what could happen here in the future.

The River Adur has always been a good-tempered river, but I cannot help feeling that once the building starts, we will be living on borrowed time.

I urge all Shoreham people to look at the forums, irrespective of whether they live in this area or not, because they reflect how people feel about this.

Any flooding will have far-reaching effects.

Compensation for water damage is rarely adequate and no price can be put on the misery it causes.
