Putting Worthing on the map.

Further to Oli Poole's excellent news on last week's front page, may I please repeat my pleas as last year.

Do not let the Highways Planners and our current MPs ruin Worthing by allowing major works on the current A27. Any works to favour the 40 per cent of through traffic on the road (Note: NOT a majority of users) must be to the disadvantage of the whole of Worthing. Four years of works will grind Worthing to a standstill unless a relief route is first created to get traffic away from North Worthing and, if a relief route is to be created, let’s just have a relief route out of town.

Our MPs have failed to get a Worthing, Sompting and Lancing friendly solution budgeted and pursued, perhaps it is time we looked for MPs to actually represent the local electorate? Whoever it is on Friday, we all need to watch for the proposals from Highways England due soon. Make sure we all attend the planning meetings and put in our comments, even if only to say ‘none of the above’.

Do not be complacent about the proposals Worthing residents, we need to object forcefully if it doesn’t serve Worthing. Tinkering with the current A27 roadway will never solve the needs of the South East. Don’t be fooled by the platitudes.
