Pet substitute

Many elderly people living alone rely on a cat or dog for companionship, but when their pet dies, they may feel reluctant to consider a replacement.

This happened to me when my beloved elderly cat had to be put to sleep, and realising that I could no longer cope with the responsibility of another cat, decided to settle for a small rodent.

After contacting the Blue Cross for advice, they forwarded several leaflets and I now have a female hamster – a very cute and intelligent creature who provides much entertainment and makes very few demands. Not the same degree of companionship as my cat of course but she has helped to fill the gap.
