‘No link between sugar and obesity’

The childhood obesity report published by the Health Select Committee recently is scientifically and economically illiterate.

It represents an attack on our freedom to choose what we want to eat and drink. It’s the nanny state on steroids.

There is no direct link between sugar and obesity, and therefore any sugar tax would simply not work.

It has not worked elsewhere in the world either because it encourages substitution, not decreased consumption.

Why publish a report calling for a sugar tax when sugar consumption has actually fallen by 21 per cent since 1974?
