Littlehampton has become dumping ground

My wife and I moved to Littlehampton just under two years ago.

We like Littlehampton, though the proposed regeneration of the town is clearly long overdue and will be very welcome.

Having viewed some of the details, there doesn’t appear to be a plan to attract decent shops to the town in order to add some variety and draw people to shop here.

These are needed, as the town centre seems to be slowly dying, while even more out of town shopping areas are being developed.

Since moving to Littlehampton, we have witnessed drug dealing and alcohol abuse to an extent that we hadn’t seen before moving here.

The council doesn’t seem interested in ensuring litter and refuse is cleared from the surrounding roads.

For example, the ditch along Eldon Way from the A259 junction is full of cans and other refuse.

The so called dog walk from Eldon Way to Morrisons is also often littered with the contents of black bin bags.

The wooded area on the A259/Eldon Way junction is littered with old advertising hoarding and other items.

It’s pretty much a dumping ground. These are just some examples in a very small area. They are basic issues that require attention, and Arun District Council has a facility for reporting these things, but they don’t actually do anything.

If the council won’t do anything about these basic issues, I wonder what a regenerated town will actually look like.
