LETTER: Welfare cuts

That £6.7 billion came out of the £20 billion we paid in tax to the EU.

Each year, the Government fills out a tax return.

Income, such as tax paid to Inland Revenue, VAT, customs duty etc, is taxable by the EU.

The £6.7 billion is a tax credit.

The remaining £12 billion or so is for the EU to finance salaries, expense accounts etc, in Brussels.

Before the £20 billion was paid to the EU, we had the £6.7 billion for research.

We also had the £12 billion needed for welfare.

If anyone is unhappy with the Government having to cut £12 billion from welfare, take it up with Brussels, not Westminster.
