LETTER: ‘Rip-off tax’?

I have just bought a carrier bag. No big deal, really.

Then it got me thinking. How many people use carrier bags to line their kitchen bins, or other bins, for that matter? Lots! I do.

Sales of bin liners, made of plastic, will go through the roof, then to landfill, which is exactly what the government was trying to alleviate by introducing the levy, or so they make us believe.

What about all the goods that are put into the bags?

Have a look next time you go shopping, I bet 90 per cent of goods will be packaged in plastic.

The levy is just another rip-off tax by the government!
