LETTER: Keep UK safe

UK police officers and the EU’s law enforcement agency Europol have conducted a week-long operation targeting foreign criminal gangs who have been using the UK’s roads and motorways to smuggle people and drugs.

Based in Birmingham, Europol and police officers from the UK, Romania, Lithuania and the Netherlands performed road checks on vehicles and persons leading to over 800 arrests and the seizure of drugs and cash.

Many of the foreign criminals had European Arrest Warrants issued for them for other serious crimes in their home countries.

This operation shows us how important a role Europol plays.

Sharing information with our neighbours, pooling resources and working with forces across the continent is the only way we can get a handle on cross-border crime.

If we want to remain part of the European Arrest Warrant to make Britain safer, we must remain a full member of the EU.
