LETTER: Correcting an error in article

I write to correct an error in the article '˜Bringing life-saving blood to hospitals for free, every night' (Herald & Gazette last week).

It stated that NHS Blood and Transplant cannot deliver blood after 7pm. That is not true.

Our drivers provide a blood delivery service to hospitals 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This includes regular routine deliveries and emergency deliveries when additional blood is needed.

Hospitals can also choose to arrange their own transport, whether they use contractors, couriers or charity volunteers.

I would also like to reassure readers that the demand for blood from hospitals is always met. NHS Blood and Transplant works hard to keep stock levels healthy and issues blood for hospital patients around the clock.

None of this would be possible without blood donors, ordinary people doing an extraordinary thing to save and improve the lives of others.
