LETTER: Car parking woe

I parked there the other week and returned just within the two hours. But by the time the queue had gone down, I was into the three-hour time.

I tapped in my registration and was suprised when a ticket came out, as I had not put any money in. I even remarked on it to the man next to me. I moved away and checked the receipt, and realised it had someone else’s registration on it, so I guess it was delayed from the last person. Someone was at that machine, so I went to the other one and tapped in my number plate again, and paid the money. When the receipt came out, it wasn’t my number plate on that, either.

I then picked up another one, which also wasn’t me. So, the machine must delay them coming out. I didn’t wait and got in my car, and drove out, knowing I had paid.

I even remarked on it to my husband when I got home, saying I had to pay more because I went over the two hours by five minutes or so.

So, imagine my shock when I received a charge notice for £90, saying that they do not have evidence that a sufficient parking payment was made to cover the duration of the visit.

I know I paid it all because I was cross with myself for going over the time and having to pay extra. So I tried to ring to dispute this, only to be told to ‘put it in writing’.

Well I am afraid I am not paying £90 for something that I didn’t do wrong.

Of course, because of the delay of tickets I have no proof, but I would gladly go to court and swear that I paid.
